Music for your Wedding

Some suggestions and helpful hints

HYMNS:

You will need to choose two hymns for the Service.
To get some ideas, you can look in the hymnbooks used in Church.
Check the number of verses you'd like, looking carefully at the words to make sure they are suitable for a wedding!

Some popular hymns are:

Love Divine, all loves excelling (Tune: Blaenwern)
Lord of all hopefulness
One more step along the world I go
Praise my soul the King of Heaven
Guide me O (Bread of Heaven, tune: Cwm Rhondda)
Morning has broken
All things bright & beautiful
Sing Hosanna (Give me joy in my heart)
O Jesus I have promised
Bind us together, Lord
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father
How great Thou art
The King of Love my shepherd is
At the name of Jesus
Our God reigns
Breathe on me, breath of God
Christ is made the sure foundation
Now thank we all our God
Make me a channel of your peace

These are suggestions only - you may choose something else.

Discuss the Psalm

with the member of the Clergy who is marrying you. There are two, set in the printed sheet, either:

Lord be merciful unto us & bless us, or:

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills.

They can either be said, or sung (if you are having the Choir)

During the Signing of the Register you could choose:

An anthem from the Choir or
Organ music or
Another hymn  or
Guest singer or instrumentalist

MUSIC for ARRIVAL of the BRIDE: (suggestions)

Here comes the Bride - (Bridal March by Wagner) Traditional
Trumpet Voluntary - by Jeremiah Clarke
Trumpet Tune - by Purcell
Hornpipe from The Water Music - by Handel
Prelude to a Te Deum  - by Charpentier (Eurovision theme)
Arrival of the Queen of Sheba -   Handel
Trumpet Tune - by John Stanley

MUSIC for final PROCESSION: (suggestions)

The Wedding March -by Mendelssohn     Traditional
Or any of the above, except the Wagner.

I am happy to answer general questions about the music and 'hum' any tunes you may not be sure of!

For weddings other than at St Illtud's, Llantwit Major, you may wish to discuss details with the individual organists ~ ask your minister who it will be.
