St Donats Church

The church of St Donat (Dunwyd) dates from the 12th century, with additions and changes being made over the next few hundred years.

It is a Grade 1 listed building and lies in the shadow of the medieval castle which shares its name, itself a very historic building.  Built by the Stradling family, in the early 20th century it was bought by the newspaper baron William Randolf Hurst.  It is now the home of 'Atlantic College', an international sixth form college with students from all over the world.

The church contains a number of Norman features, and is distinguished by its Victorian stained glass, Norman font, Stradling memorial and recent Millennium Window.

A more comprehensive description of this church can be found in the book 'Medieval Churches of the Vale of Glamorgan' by Geoffrey Orrin, published by D. Brown
