St5radling memorial

 

     On the north side of tomb is an ornately carved oval panel with the inscription.:-

     

    "Here lies Sr Thomas Stradling the 2ns Bar.tt of Englan and the last of the Name. He was the second Son of Sr Edw. Stradling Bar.tt by Elizabeth Daughter of Sr Edward Mansel of Margam Bar.tt and younger Brother to Edwd. Stradling Esqr. deposited within this Tomb. He died at Montpellier the 27th of September 1738 N.S. and was buried here the 10th of March Following by his death the Title and Family after its Continuance here near 700 years. Became Extinct.  Etatis Suae 28"

    The Stradling Family

    The memorial to the Stradling Family is situated on the north side of chancel in the Lady Chapel in St Donats Church.
    The tomb itself is a rectangular tomb chest in smooth white marble mounted on a black marble base.  

     On the south side of tomb is a similarly carved panel with the inscription:

     "To the Sacred Memory of Edward Stradling of St Donat's Castle in Glamorganshire Esq. The Eldest Son of Sr Edward Stradling Bart by Elizabeth the Daughter of Sir Edward Mansel of Morgan in the Same County Bart.  He was born on the 30th of March 1699 and departed this life in the fear of God. The 3rd day of October 1726 Aged 27 To the unspeakable griefe of his parents and all that knew him being a most accomplished gentleman in all respects."
